Rajapaksa Park is one of Negombo’s most pleasant green spaces
In the busy heart of Negombo lies a quiet retreat where locals and visitors can pause, breathe, and reconnect with nature.
Rajapaksa Park is one of the town’s most pleasant public spaces—an inviting green oasis offering shade, serenity, and a welcome escape from the bustle of urban life.
Located along Rukmani Devi Mawatha, the park is easily accessible from the town centre and several of Negombo’s best-known attractions.
Calm environment

Its landscaped gardens, walking paths, and open lawns create a calm environment where families, couples, and solo visitors can relax for a while amid the greenery.
Whether you are enjoying a morning jog, a leisurely stroll, or simply sitting in the shade beneath the trees, the park offers a refreshing contrast to the busy streets outside.
The land originally belonged to the family of the famous Sri Lankan singer and actress Rukmani Devi, who donated it after her death in 1978.
The area was first developed as Rukmani Devi Park before undergoing renovation in 2014, when it was renamed Rajapaksa Park.
Green space

Today the park is maintained by the municipal council and remains one of the few significant green spaces within the town.
Visitors will find shaded pathways lined with palm trees leading to a charming lily pond at the centre of the park.
A small gazebo reached by footbridges provides a peaceful vantage point overlooking the water, while landscaped gardens attract birds and small wildlife such as palm squirrels.
Playgrounds

Families often gather here for picnics, and children enjoy the playgrounds scattered around the grounds.
For travellers exploring Negombo, Rajapaksa Park offers a gentle pause between sightseeing stops.
It is a place to slow down, watch the rhythm of everyday life, and enjoy a quiet moment in the city’s green heart.
