Ayurveda jet-lag cure for short-stay time travellers at Terrace Green Hotel & Spa!

One of the many reasons visitors to Sri Lanka choose Terrace Green Hotel & Spa in Negombo is the scourge of all long-distance time travellers—jet lag!

Which is why our Spa Secret’s most popular Ayurveda treatment is specifically intended to help reset the go-slow body clocks of guests who arrive tired and weary after a long flight.

This is especially the case for short-stay ‘bookenders’ who want to be in great shape before embarking on their magical mystery tours of our paradise island!

Mind-body rejuvenation is at the heart of Sri Lanka’s traditional Ayurveda wellness philosophy. In this case, Shirodhara for jet lag, Abhyanga for sleep, and hot herbal bath for detox.

Shirodhara

This is a steady, gentle stream of warm oil poured onto the forehead, specifically on the ‘third-eye’ area between the eyebrows.

How it works

You lie on a special table. Warm herbal oil (or sometimes milk or buttermilk) is poured from a copper or earthenware pot that swings gently above your head.

The oil flows continuously across your forehead for 20–45 minutes. A therapist may give a light head or shoulder massage during or after.

What it does

In simple terms, it calms the nervous system. People describe it as deeply soothing, sometimes drifting into a dreamlike state.

It’s commonly used for stress and anxiety, insomnia, headaches and mental fatigue such as that induced by, you guessed it, jet lag.

Abhyanga

This is a traditional full-body massage by one or two therapists using warm herbal oils tailored to your ‘dosha’, or body type.

The oil is poured generously over the body. The massage movements are rhythmic: long strokes, circular motions on the joints, and gentle pressure.

The oil is meant to soak into the skin, and you may relax in a herbal bath afterwards to help absorption.

What it does

It loosens tight muscles, improves blood flow, nourishes skin and joints, calms the mind, and supports sleep.

Grounding, warming, and very relaxing, it is less a simple spa massage, more like being cocooned in a warm and relaxing embrace!
